Garbology Resources

There are a variety of resources available on "garbology," or the study of modern society based on what it throws away. Here are some resources that we recommend:

Websites:

Dr. Rathje's Garbology Online site at Stanford University (currently undergoing revision) includes images and material from the project. Includes a brief history of the project from its inception in 1973 and a vita of project activities and related publications (both in PDF format).

How Garbage Got ot be an "-ology" by William Rathje, from MSW Management, an industry journal.

The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) maintains an extensive set of resources for students, teachers and the public. Included are teacher workshops, classroom presentations and an outline of SWACO's partnership activities with Columbus Public Schools.
