Welcome to Californ-eye-ay, Greenhorns!

Welcome to the website of the Clarksburg Shipwreck Project, a week-long field project to document a 19th century shipwreck in the Sacramento River near Clarksburg. This vessel, believed to be a seagoing sailing ship dating from the 1840s or 1850s, may give us valuable new insights on the little-recognized role of marine transportation in the most famous gold rush in American history.

For one week (October 22-26, 2007), students from the Columbus, Ohio and Sacramento, California, will follow the progress of the project, and post questions for researchers in the field to address.
