Team 2: Rayanne Gordon, Adam Kowalski and
Keith Young
Today was a special day, not
only was it our last full day of the field school but we also got to
sleep in fifteen minutes. While that might not seem like a lot of time,
it was a huge improvement over the past eight days. Despite the pleasure
we all took in sleeping, we were met with the horrible news when we woke
that there was no more milk. Some people decided to blame that dilemma
on Keith, who without a doubt consumes the most milk, but then Anne
pointed out that everyone had had some milk with the brownies that were
brought for the lecture the previous evening.

Laying out the main wreck structure on
the site plan. Left to right: Kate Harding, Doug Faunt, Adam Kowalski,
Keith Young, Dr. Corbin and Marc Massom.
As a result of the lack of milk
for cereal and our inability to cook for ourselves, Mr. Hall decided to
put us to work right away. We rolled out the site map and the
frustration began. Admittedly today’s mapping was not as frustrating as
days past, but Team Three had quite the time adding an additional sheet
to the map so that they could map their last set of artifacts. It was
also humorous watching Adam and Mark Melancon ("Wee Mark," as opposed to
"Big Marc" Massom), pull their hair out trying to create one complete
scale drawing of the main body of the wreck from the smaller drawings of
each team.

Last lunch: Adam Kowalski, Alek Zywot (obscured) Keith Young, Kate
Harding, Rayanne Gordon, Sam Erdman and Doug Faunt.
Meanwhile Sam was crying over
the computer as he matched photographs with written artifact records for
hours on end. Katie and Keith were down in the dive shop copying several
hundred artifact sheets and then punching holes in those sheets, a task
that Keith had some trouble completing. Somewhere in the middle of all
of this we ate our normal lunch consisting of cold cuts and leftovers.
Luckily there was plenty of milk. Once all of work for the map and
artifacts were done, we began a general cleaning of the entire dorm
area, which took a while. After the cleaning was done we packed our bags
and prepared for Anne’s Birthday and the wrap-up party. Dr. Smith cooked
a delicious dinner consisting of shrimp, lasagna, ziti, twice backed
spaghetti and of course one of Big Marc’s salads. After dinner the party
began with guest ranging from the field school students, to the dive
shop staff and almost anyone who had anything to do with the project. We
celebrated the end of a very successful field school session as well as
Anne’s twenty-fifth birthday (we would tell how many years in a row she
was celebrating her twenty-fifth birthday for, but out of fear for our
lives we will refrain from doing so). The party was fun but for
everyone’s sake we will not mention anything. At some point in the night
people left and went to bed and that was the end of the last full day of
this field school.
