Team 1: Cherrelle,
Scott and Kamara
Today we went snorkeling at John
Pennekamp National Park. The water looked nasty and tasted nasty. The
snorkeling was really fun. Cherrelle saw an angelfish. Scott saw a
huge crab at the drop off. Kamara saw a black grouper fish. We all saw
bar jack fish. Scott and Cherrelle counted nine cannons. Kamara was
side tracked from the fish and counted three cannons. Cherrelle had a
bad morning and ran into the bathroom door. Kamara had trouble seeing
this morning and her eyes were burning. Scott’s morning was rough and
slow. We were chefs today and we made a delicious and nutritious salad.
Team 2: Taylor, Ronny
and Oliver
We woke up this morning at 8 am
and people were hogging the bathroom. Then we had to KP, after the
house meeting. Our first activity today and the rest of the week was
snorkeling at Pennekamp National Park. At the park we saw nine cannons
and an anchor. We also saw different species of fish. The most
exciting thing today was: (Ronny) getting confidence at snorkeling and
deep water. (Oliver) Being in the ocean on a real snorkeling event.
(Taylor) the way the drop off went from 4ft to 35ft. Later on we went
home for lunch then returned for a presentation on ID/reef fish.
Everyone was happy to visit Publix, a grocery store, felt like a rat
race but it was shopping. Overall we hope to see (Ronny) less humid
weather, (Oliver) fun-time, (Taylor) “fun in the sun.”

Team 3: Cassie, Nick
K. and Nick R.
Weather: Hot, humid, sunny.
Underwater visibility: roughly 2.5 ft
We arrived here at 1.30 am this
morning. We dragged our luggage up to our dorm and separated into our
rooms. The guys got the large room and the girls got a tiny room, down
the hall from the bathroom. Nobody got any sleep because we all woke up
early. At 9 am Dr. Sheli and Anne explained what our groups /chores
were for and what we were supposed to do the rest of the week. At 9.30
we left to go to Pennekamp. We got into the water pretty fast and
started to look around the shipwreck. All we could see were 10 cannons
and the anchor. Near the shipwreck there was little to no coral life
and plants because of all the people trampling /walking on it. When you
swam away from the wreck a little way, you could see plants in the
water. Later in the afternoon, after lunch, we went back and listened
to a lecture about the different fishes we would see snorkeling.

Team 4: Deidra, Tymar
and Fralisia
Today we had a house meeting to
learn about the house rules. Our group is the Data Doyens. This means
we make sure that everyone writes a journal for us to collect. We then
went to John Pennekamp National Park. We snorkeled around a Spanish
Ship wreck. All that was left were 14 cannons and 1 anchor. This was
Fralisia’s and Tymar’s first time snorkeling but Deidra had snorkeled
before. Then Tymar thought he saw a stingray and flipped out. We also
saw parrotfish, grunt and guppies. Later we went to a fish ID seminar
to learn all the different kinds of fish. We also looked at the
aquarium.
