Team 1: Cherrelle,
Scott and Kamara
Today we went to Grecian rocks, The Horse
Shoe, Dry Rock and NOAA’S Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The
weather was hot and humid, like yesterday. We personally think that
today’s weather was a little bit better than yesterdays. Scott had a
good day today. While in the water our group observed a variety of
fish. Those include a trunkfish, a French Angel fish barracuda, a
nursery shark, a yellow tailed snapper, brain coral, fire coral, fan
coral and a grouper fish, which is the Nasua Grouper. Cherrelle’s day
was crapy. She didn’t get to eat breakfast and she threw up. Kamaras
day was woozy. She got dizzy and sick on our way to the second
destinition, which as the the horse shoe. We didn’t get our morning job
down, because we were KP today. Now we are ready for dinner and a
shower.

Ready and waiting. And waiting. . . .
P.S. we did get our job done when we got
back from the lecture with our kitchen duties.
Team 2: Taylor, Ronny
and Oliver
This morning all of the groups gathered
at the dock at 8 o’clock in the
morning. We boarded a boat headed for three different snorkeling
destinations: the Grecian Rocks, the Christ of Abyss and the Horseshoe.
At the Grecian Rocks the water was crystal clear, and perfectly warmed
by the sun. When we first arrived we were told to swim around and
observe the different types of fish. After a little while we were told
to count the conch shells that were in the sea grass. At the Christ of
the Abyss the water was about 25 feet deep at the deepest part and the
statue of Jesus was located at the center of a circle of reefs that were
also filled with tropical fish. At our first destination, the Horseshoe
Reef, the reefs and coral were shaped in the shape of a horseshoe,
fitting its name well. There were large schools of small fish that
billowed as if they were a cloud of smoke. This morning of snorkeling
was an extremely educational and fun experience.

Weather conditions; humid and clear.
Visibility: 30 feet

Today we went to the three different
locations, the first one was the Grecian Rock. The water was shallow,
but very visible. The second location was Dry Rock. This was where the
Christ of the Abyss is. The water was about 30 ft. deep at his feet and
he was about 12 ft tall. The statue was unbelievable. The best of the
three locations was where the Christ of the Abyss was. We saw many
types of fish today but we could only recognize 10 of them. There
wasn’t much of a current while we were snorkeling. The only site with
sea grass was Grecian Rocks, the rest of the dive sites consisted of
deeper water with towering coral heads. Unlike yesterdays dive site,
the floor-bottom consisted of sand, not silt and rocks. There was also
no thermocline, where warm and cold water meets.

The famous Christ of the Abyss statue.
Team 4: Deidra, Tymar
and Fralisia
Partly Sunny; Hot/Humid; Water Temp: 80; Air Temp: 90
Today we got on the boats. There were 3
separate areas we snorkeled. Also today was thee first day we took a
fish count. Our group saw a trumpet fish, barracuda, eagle ray, nurse
shark, and many others. Then we followed Mr. Johassen into far away
shallow water away from the boats. Captain Mike had to come and bring
us back to the rest of the group. After that Tymar and Fralisia got sea
sick on the boat. Deidra then got to snorkel with another group. After
that we came in and got lunch ready. Later we went to a presentation by
the Florida Keys National [Marine] Sanctuary. There was also a really
cool way cool who feed us oreos. Then we helped make dinner, which was
enchiladas and salad.
