Today was the 5th day of camp.
Today we learned about trace evidence and bugs. The lady that taught
trace evidence was Dr. Yezzo from BCI+I. They use a system called NIBIN
which is a computer program that uses digital imagery to link fire-arms
casings left at scenes. Dr. Yezzo taught us all kinds of interesting
things. One thing she taught us was that fingerprint dust does not harm
DNA. We also learned that DNA stands for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid. An
electropheragram is a DNA result page. Afterwards, we discussed bugs and
their relation with forensics. We discussed this with Dr. David Shelter.
We learned about how blood from parasitic animals could trace back to
people or murder victims.

After learning about bugs and
insects, we looked over at a decomposing raccoon and the flies and
maggots eating it. Then we studied more maggots and looked at them under
a microscope. It was a very interesting day.
