Today was our first weekend day and we all headed down to Key West to
check out the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum. The museum has a vast
collection of artifacts from various shipwrecks and is currently having
a special exhibit, "La Plata Del Mar." This exhibit featured an array of
silver artifacts that were recovered from different wrecks ranging from
jewelry to coins. Even though Fisher's emphasis was on treasure
salvaging for private collection, there were many things that the
Maritime Archaeologist could learn from his team's work. After browsing
the museum we decided to explore Key West on foot.

For lunch we ate at the famous restaurant, Sloppy Joe's and we all
thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Their fries are to die for!! After much
walking around shopping and melting in the heat and humidity we all met
up at the "Boar's Breath" for a light dinner and relaxation. The
atmosphere was great and we all unwound after a long and enjoyable day
in Key West!
