Brooke measure section of wheel section one.
Scott Tucker and
Kathy Schubert
We were all sad to
leave the wreck site today, as it was our last diving day of the field
school. But the team hustled to get the final mapping and measuring
done, and in addition, the local media and NOAA came out to the site to
watch the work. The team finished up its last measurements, collected
all of the rebars and equipment, and surfaced to the boats.

Local reporter Kevin Wadlow of the Key
Noter dives the Sanford site for article.
Today was also media
day. Reporters from the Miami Herald and the KeyNoter came out to the
wreck site to go on a dive and snorkel tour, hosted by Ann. The
Miami Herald interviewed Scott and Kathy about their experience with
the field school and their impressions of the wreck site. Later in the
afternoon, Reid provided an interview to the KeyNoter.

Once we returned
from diving, the team got right to work writing up the final artifact
notes and plotting the site on the Site Map. The afternoon passed
quickly, and was ended nicely by a homemade batch of mojitos,
compliments of bartender Scott!
After a tasty dinner
of Dr. Sheli’s chicken tacos with assistance from Chef Reid, the evening
lecture consisted of guest speaker Dr. Kira Kaufman from FPAN (Florida
Public Archaeology Network). Her exciting presentation about all types
of archaeology in Florida was informative, and we enjoyed the little
gifts she gave us.
