With all the data collected and the datum poles pulled the team
settled in on Thursday to collate all the data, finish the site
plan, present their findings and recommendations, and last but
not least bring the 2008 field school to a close. What a great
team. They worked tirelessly, first with the Trelewicz
Collection and then archaeologically with the site of the
Menemon Sanford. Their site plan beautifully captured the
features that still sit proud of the sandy bottom. Each team
took on a part of the final report and as the day proceeded, a
robust manuscript emerged.
When Brenda Altmeier from NOAA FKNMS
arrived for our farewell dinner down at the dock the team
proudly handed her the 2008 Interim Report for the Memenon
Sanford. There were lots of smiles and laughter as the team
sat down for a final meal with the Quiescence crew. A beautiful
sunset capped the program as we bid farewell to Key Largo for
another year.
This morning after a flurry of activity we
loaded up the vans and headed to the airport. As always it is
bittersweet to say farewell at the end of the field school.
Thank you Anne, Brooke, Chris, Erin, Kathy, Kelly, Reid, Scott,
and Tessa for making 2008 such a wonderful field school, full of
fun, great work and memorable moments.
Cheers,
Sheli
