Scott Tucker and Kathy Schubert

After a quick breakfast with the group, we headed off to NOAA for a day of education and fun.  Brenda Altmeier, the cultural resources specialist, gave the group a presentation about NOAA, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and various backgrounds about shipwrecks and the Shipwreck Trail.  We learned that sea turtles have been using the bronze pins on one of the local wrecks to scratch off their barnacles!

Brenda Altmeier of NOAA discusses the Shipwreck Trail at the sanctuary.

We then spent the rest of the day cataloging the photographs that have been compiled over 7 years by Denis Trelewicz.  The cataloging will translate to a database of information that will become available to the public when it is done.  These photos show the site formations and progress of degradation of numerous shipwreck sites within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

Kelly, Erin and Reid catalogue images while Anne assists.
