1
Lya, Kristine, Antonio & Colin
Today was a very fun day because we
ended up going on a canoe trip. The best part of the day was the
canoeing. The best part of the for Lya was going under the trees when
she was on her canoe. Antonio loved eating the food after a hard and
long canoe trip. The worst part of the day for Antonio was falling in
the water and getting really cold. The worst part for Lya was trying to
map out areas. The worst part of the day for Kristine was doing the
dishes after dinner. The excuse of the day was “the water is cold”. The
quote of the day was “watch out”

Team 2
Adnane, Deidra, Allison, & Michael
Today was our eleven-mile canoe trip
on the Black River. Deidra and Allison managed to stay dry for the
whole trip, but Adnane and Michael capsized twice though dried off
quickly in the sun. Allie, Deidra, Cassie and Ahmed all sun-bathed in
their canoes while getting eaten alive by the ever-present mosquitoes.
The water was fairly warm, and a lot of people got to experience this
first-hand.
After our long canoe trip we came back
to Camp Ocqueoc and practiced mapping some of the buildings and
landscape around the campground. We mapped the side of a building, and a
teeter-totter that is hardly fit to hold any humans weight. Deidra and
Allie then decided to try it out, laughing over the consistent ominous
creaking.
Dinner shortly followed and we had fun
socializing with the other groups. After eating, we listened to a brief
lecture over cultural landscapes by one of our adult leaders; Joyce
Chan. We then had free time to hang out and acquire more steps for our
daily individual pedometers. It was a very productive first day.
Daily Quotes:
Allie (to Eric): “Zip up your man-suit
and row, boy!”
Deidra: “The laws of physics say no.”
Michael: “It only took me fifteen
tries to get back in the canoe instead of twenty like last time!”
Excuses of the day:
Allie: “They’re boys!”
Deidra: “She poked me first!”
Michael: “My back hurts!”
Adnane: “I’m too skinny!”
Team 3
Cassie , Ahmed, Eric, Achal
This morning our group did not have to
wake up early because we are the data doyens for today. Most of the
people woke up late today because it is the first day and the schedule
is new for everyone. The chefs set up everything for breakfast and
lunch. After breakfast we had a quick meeting where we discussed what we
would be doing for the day. When we had finished the meeting we all got
ready and then headed out to go canoeing. Canoeing was AWESOME. We all
had a lot of fun. The only two people in our group that didn’t tip were
Eric and Cassie. Half way through our canoe trip we all stopped and ate
lunch while we waited for everyone to catch up. We went at a leisurely
pace for the canoe trip so we would not be incredibly exhausted for the
rest of the trip. Colin and Mr. Levinson helped everyone get their
canoes out of Black River. We all put our canoes back on the rack and
then drove back to the campsite. Back at the campsite Anne gave a us a
mini lecture on mapping and archeological sites. We all created our own
base lines and mapped different sections of the camp. Our group mapped
part of the Lunch Hall and then practiced marking flags. After this we
all put away the gear and went to the Lunch Hall to have dinner.
We would like to mention a special
person in our camp—Anne because she is awesome…and very special to us.

"Anne, because she is awesome."
Quotes of the Day
“You are a WIP”
“If you find yourself alone in a room
with a candle you should panic…and run away”

Our day began with setting out the
food for the day; we were chefs. After breakfast we had a quick overview
of the day and the tasks we were going to complete.
The day’s activity was to go canoeing
at the Black Cape River. There were two people per canoe and a canoe
caring three.
Two of us (the guys) fell terribly
into the muddy river TWICE! In their defense (they told us to write
that); the second time they fell, the water was higher than their head.
Unlike the guys us girls did not fall
into the water (because we are girls). We were careful, smart, and
considerate of our surroundings; with our great canoeing skills we
maneuvered through anything that happened to come our way.
On our way back we were all terribly
tired, and took a quick nap in the van. For the first time on this trip
we were all dead silent.
Coming back we were disappointed to
have to go to class again because we were tired and wanted to take a
nap. We made it through and did a quick run of how to map a site using a
baseline.
After the mapping we were happy to go
to dinner. The big cookie was delicious. Then we went back to the study
room to continue looking up information on Mackinaw. We hope to do a lot
of progress on our work tonight.
