Nicole
M. B. Morris
Masters Student in Biology
University of West Florida |
Nicole Morris graduated from Jacksonville State
University with a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 2003. She
gained substantial research experience as an undergraduate by
participating in a National Science Foundation sponsored Research
Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
This yearlong marsh ecology project focused on the response of two
saltpan plant species, Distichlis spicata and Salicornia
bigelovii to fertilization. In the coming year, Ms. Morris hopes to gain
her first scientific publication from the results of her REU project.
The Deep Wrecks Project marks
the beginning of Ms. Morris' graduate career in marine fisheries. She will
be researching the fish associated with target shipwrecks by taking data
from transects across these wrecks. These data will comprise the
framework for Ms. Morris' master’s thesis. |
