Red River Update: August 2

Blown Out

Thursday, August 2, 2001. No work was done today on the wreck. A release of water from the dam at Hugo Lake, several miles upstream, increased the flow of the Red River to dangerous levels. According to Dr. Annalies Corbin, leader of this morning’s dive team, the level of the river had risen so much that "the snags and debris that have piled up on the machinery don’t even ripple the surface."

Instead, the field school students spent most of Thursday going over their previous dive notes, refining drawings and adding data to the overall site plan.
