I’m in a University department, how will this be an asset to my department?
- Building a library of theses and dissertations will bolster the department’s research.
- Students’ work will be part of the larger academic community for other students, in which there will later be advancement.
- The department will have accessible hard copies of their student’s work for other academic dissemination.
- Those who are endorsing or giving grants also enjoy public access to the published results.
- Instructors and professors can take this opportunity to publish the papers of their students or organize their own textbooks for their classes.
How will you be marketing my work?
- Your published work will be included in our online bookstore accessible through the PAST website and noted in the newsletter. Through our partnerships with international organizations, institutions, and companies, your work will be shared among a global academic and professional community.
- You may also list your work through online bookstores such as amazon.com for additional costs.
- Books can also be made available to national chains for an extra fee of $99.95.
What is the process?
- You will need to send us a PDF file, a Word Document file, and a hard copy of your fully formatted work, as well as front and back covers (more information below).
- PAST will then give you easy-to-follow guidelines for preparing your publication.
What does it mean if PAST publishes? Do I have any entitlement to the work if I ever want to republish somewhere else or include it in another published piece?
- As long as there is a 20% change such as artwork, title, acknowledgment, preface, or a new introduction, you will be able to assign a new ISBN and take it wherever you wish!
What if my work contains sensitive information?
- You can protect your work by altering or excluding specific information. This will not affect the analysis and description of your research or the conclusions and its benefits.
How long will it take my book to be printed after I submit the manuscript?
- This is dependent upon you! Once we receive the manuscript, front and back covers, and photo permissions, we will order a galley copy, usually taking about a week.
- We will then send it to you for your perusal and changes you may want to make. After you send it back to us, we will make the changes and then publish your book.
How do I go about getting permission to reprint images in my manuscript?

Can PAST help get a publication ready?
- PAST does not edit or proofread. What you give us is what we publish.
- However, PAST offers services including formatting and cover art. The formatting text in preparation for publication and creation of the cover art is $50/hour.
- We can recommend other services such as technical editing and ghost writing. The costs for these services vary according to the company.
Who creates the front and back covers?
- Covers can either be from your own creation or can be sprung from your imagination or may be designed by PAST for $50/hour or we can refer you to design. (See: Technical FAQ Area). However, there are some rules:
- Covers must be in the JPG format at 300dpi (dots per inch).
- The image size must be slightly larger than the actual book size to allow for cutting. Example – An 8.5×11 inch format requires a cover image of 8.625×11.25 inches.
- If you are at a complete loss, then send us the images and some ideas and we will create the covers for you.
Do I have any rights to the Work if I publish with PAST?
- The copyright is paid by the author and is in the author’s name. You own all the rights to your work.
- PAST is simply the publisher. However, copyrights can be shared. For further information regarding current copyright law, see www.copyright.gov.
Do I have to change the formatting of my original document?
- This is your work to publish as you like it. We will send you formatting guidelines in regards to page sizes and recommendations for formatting.
- You will also be able to publish in the style that you want.
- If your material is dated before PDF’s and other computer software that allows altering, such as typed or printed on dot-matrix, then we will publish the scanned PDF’s as they are sent to us (See: Defence).
What is the author’s discount?
- Bulk discounts are automated and start at 26 copies with the hardcover at 10.
How are royalties set up?
- Our commission is 25% of the creator revenue (or 19¢, whichever is greater) that you, the creator, set for the items you publish. This provides a commission for the printer that is equal to 20% of the total profit of each item sold.
- Royalties are calculated on the cost of production. The total cost of a publication is 2x the cost of production.
- Author Royalty: 30% of the profits.
- Institutional Royalty: 50% of the profits.
- Contact us for information on the contract that will offer you 100% of the royalties.
What if I change my mind and decide that I do not want my book published after I submit it to PAST?
- There are no refunds once you have submitted your manuscript to PAST. However, we will delete your profile.
How will customers be able to obtain my work? Online? Mail to order? Over the phone?
- Currently, customers can acquire your work from our online bookstore.
Will my book be available at national chains such as Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, or Amazon.com?
- For $99.95, you will receive a separate distribution package. Bibliographic data on your book will then be fed to major international bibliographic databases and then to booksellers. At the booksellers’ discretion, your book may be made available for sale online or in bookstores.
- Conversion of a retail price will then be made into five currencies (US dollars, British pounds, Australian dollars, Euros, and Canadian dollars) to facilitate global availability and purchasing. A listing in a wholesaler’s catalog will then give you access to online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
