Tenth Anniversary

For Teachers

PAST Anthropologists are committed to changing the world of education to encompass transdisciplinary teaching and learning.  To do this we partner with educators and the community to build engaging programs and projects. Once built all of our educational modules are available to educators either in digital form or in printed media. In the Modules section, all published project-based-learning activities are available.

Teachers can browse our summer bridge programs both Current and Previous to see what types of authentic learning are incorporated. In addition, teachers are welcome to Contact Us about working with your school or district in partnering to create project-based learning or work with faculty to understand how to do it on your own. PAST also provides the unique service of Ethnographic Knowledge Capture for schools setting out on a new venture of school educational reform and eager to understand the underlying framework that supports that reform to insure success.

The Challenge

In addition to the lack of quality agriculture programs providing the full spectrum of food value chain, urban students lack the availability of quality high nutrition valued foods. This lack of access to garden food is directly correlated to the lack of knowledge on how to plan, develop, or manage a home garden. Farmer’s markets strategically placed within an urban center can provide fresh produce to individuals who may not have access to fresh produce.

Who do students turn to help them design, plan, implement and tweek their projects.  Preparing teachers to work with students in immersion programs that are rich with problem/project-based learning is integral to success.

The Solution

Teaching Growing America offers teachers the opportunity to brainstorm their own program drawing on the expertise of an existing program and a well-structured approach to building projects.  In addition teachers have the opportunity to experience the student activities associated with the bridge program.
