Additive Manufacturing Summer Institute — AMSI

Are you interested in 3D Printing?

Over four weeks in June, students and teachers are invited to participate in a dynamic, rapid paced course that covers four areas of additive manufacturing – CAD, Welding, 3D Printing and Assembly.  The immersive program prepares students for college pathways in Additive Manufacturing, while providing teachers with professional development for bringing effective and engaging coursework back to school.  The Summer Institute also preps students and teachers to earn industry recognized certification.

Through a National Science Foundation ATE grant Columbus State Community College, PAST Foundation and The Ohio State University, in collaboration with industry and educational partners, are developing an intensive summer program and through this support are able to offer student scholarships and teacher fellowships.  Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to be better prepared for college and career or better prepared to teach additive manufacturing.

Important Dates

  • Additive Manufacturing Summer Institute: June 3 – June 28
  • Four Week Online Course (Teachers only): May 6- May 31

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES for STUDENTS  

Students selected for the AMSI summer Scholaship program will receive a full scholarship for the summer institute

  1. Earn a SME accredited professional certification in Additive Manufacturing.
  2. Prepares students who are interested in exploring manufacturing and engineering  classes at Columbus State and looking for a  potential career path.

Who Should Apply?

  • Students entering 11th, 12th grades or graduating seniors interested in a manufacturing career pathways.
  • Students interested in hands-on manufacturing career with immediate opportunities.

FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES for TEACHERS   

This opportunity is for all teachers interested in immersive STEM education with an emphasis on how to apply Additive Manufacturing in the classroom. Selected teachers will participate in P3 PD and the Summer Institute at no cost, receive materials, and a $1000 stipend. Seats are limited to 8 teachers.

  1. Learn from industry experts and participate in the immersive summer institute alongside students. Work towards earning an industry recognized certification.Teachers completing the summer institute are eligible to test for the SME Additive Manufacturing Fundamentals Certificate.
  2. Participate in the interactive professional development to create a replicable additive manufacturing program and design relevant and rigorous curriculum. Participate in a four week online course and gain daily individualized support during the summer institute.
  3. Opportunity to earn eight, continuing education units (CEUs) after the online course and on-site experience. In addition, participants are eligible to receive two non-degree college credits for recertification through South Dakota State University ($80 fee).
  4. Receive a $1000 stipend.
